Hello. My name’s Tom Hulme & I’m a Design Director at IDEO in London – I help companies redesign themselves and develop new offers. My background is in Physics and entrepreneurship. My Linkedin profile is here.
I’m passionate about taking new stuff to market. I thought I’d write this blog because (counter-intuitively) I believe that now is a great time to innovate. We’re in a time of great flux – economic, technological and cultural which will shake up markets and be the making of many businesses. Joseph Schumpeter famously likened capitalism to a “perennial gale of creative destruction” – the gale has been more like a tornado recently.
wēijī is the Chinese word for crisis – I find it inspiring because it comprises the symbols for ‘danger’ and ‘opportunity’ (although this is certainly up for debate if you look here).
My blog’s entries are a standard format – I present context as ‘danger’ and a company’s creative approach as ‘opportunity’. I then offer a quick provocation that I hope might offer you some inspiration…
Anyway, it’s work in progress and as you’ll be able to tell I’m new to this stuff – if you have any ideas for improvements please do email me here.
Thanks,
Tom
